Magoosh SAT alternatives: find your next prep tool

For free SAT preparation, combine Khan Academy lessons with official Bluebook tests. For ACT preparation, start with ACT's free official practice. Compare exam-specific UWorld or PrepScholar plans for paid practice or a guided program. Consider Dolphin for focused SAT practice, and choose by the study gap rather than a universal ranking.

Good fit when

You want a different study experience and can explain what your present routine leaves unfinished.

Before you choose

Compare current products. An older description of Magoosh as only a video course is incomplete.

Published by Dolphin, one of the options discussed. This is a review of documented features and study fit, not a hands-on benchmark or a measured ranking of learning outcomes.

Start with the reason for changing

Magoosh offers separate SAT and ACT preparation, including lessons, practice and help. A reason to switch should identify what your present plan leaves unfinished, not assume that Magoosh is only a library of videos. The alternatives below are a source-based shortlist, not proof that one course produces higher scores.

Your reason Alternative to investigate Test before committing
You need to reduce spending Khan Academy and official practice resources Complete the lesson and review loop you need
You want a different practice library UWorld Inspect relevant questions and explanations
You want a weekly program PrepScholar Compare its planned workload with your school week
You want regular focused practice Dolphin Try one session and the review afterward

Keep your decision narrow. “I need a better explanation of this skill” is easier to evaluate than “I need the best SAT platform.”

What are Magoosh alternatives for SAT and ACT prep?

Match the alternative to the exam you will take. Khan Academy’s Digital SAT courses and Bluebook are SAT resources; do not treat them as an ACT course or an ACT practice test. ACT publishes its own free practice tests and section questions. Paid providers can offer both exams, but the features in an SAT plan do not establish what an ACT plan includes.

A collection of free resources still needs your own study and review plan. For a paid option, compare the exact exam, package, access period and included instruction; a trial is not ongoing free access. Check whether tutoring or classes require a different package. This guide’s Dolphin comparison covers SAT; it does not establish identical ACT features.

If you have not chosen an exam, use our SAT versus ACT guide before comparing subscriptions. For an ongoing free SAT routine, see the free SAT prep tools guide. Neither a provider’s question count nor an AI label establishes that its explanations will resolve your particular mistakes.

Compare the lesson-to-practice transition

Watching a clear lesson can feel productive. The more useful check is what happens when the lesson disappears. Try an unfamiliar problem without replaying the method, and note exactly where you get stuck.

Use that gap to evaluate another provider’s sample. Does it explain the missing connection? Does its follow-up practice test the same skill without copying the original example? If so, you have a concrete reason to continue the trial.

Compare structure with flexibility

A prescribed plan can reduce daily decisions, but it still requires time you can protect. A flexible tool can fit around school, but you need a rule for choosing the next activity.

Write down three realistic study appointments for an ordinary week. Then work out what each finalist would have you do in those appointments. Include review time. A plan that looks impressive on a product page may be unrealistic during your busiest term.

Keep official practice in the plan

Use College Board’s current official digital SAT resources for a testing reference, whichever paid or free course you select. Keep track of whether a test is new to you; repeated questions can inflate apparent progress.

Our digital practice test guide explains how official testing fits alongside day-to-day preparation.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a free SAT alternative to prepare for the ACT?

Not as a complete ACT plan. Some underlying skills overlap, but Khan Academy's Digital SAT courses and Bluebook target the SAT. Use ACT's official practice to check ACT question formats and pacing, then evaluate an ACT-specific course if you need more instruction or structure.

Does buying an SAT course include ACT preparation?

Do not assume it does. Compare the named SAT and ACT packages separately, even when a provider sells both. Confirm exam coverage, access duration and any bundle terms directly before paying. Magoosh's SAT plan page directs students interested in both exams to contact its team.

Does Magoosh offer AI help?

Its current SAT page advertises an AI tutor and related practice. Check the current package and limits before comparing that feature with another provider.

What is the closest alternative?

If you want another course, compare course products. If your main use is practice, compare practice workflows. “Closest” depends on the work you actually do, not just the two brands’ categories.

Should I buy more than one course?

Only give an additional course a place if it solves an identified need. Overlapping unfinished plans can create more decisions without adding useful practice.
