Dolphin browser extension privacy

Effective October 30, 2026. This notice describes the Dolphin College browser extension provided by PaloAI Inc. It supplements the Dolphin Privacy Policy.

Pages you choose to use with Dolphin

When you invoke Dolphin on a page, the extension can read the page’s title, address, selected text, and readable page content to provide the page context shown in the sidebar. When you ask a question or save material, the selected context is sent to Dolphin. The extension does not collect a general history of websites you visit.

You may optionally allow site access to keep the current-page attachment up to date as you switch tabs while the panel is open. This also enables a page-edge handle and additional keyboard shortcuts on supported HTTPS pages. The extension keeps only the current page context locally for this feature, clears it when the panel closes, and does not send it to Dolphin until you send a message, generate study material, or choose to save it. You can remove this site access in Chrome at any time. Chrome’s protected pages and sign-in forms are excluded from page capture.

Study tools, uploads, and recording

Flashcards, quizzes, notes, videos, and tutoring use the source material you attach and the request you send. Files you choose to upload are sent to Dolphin for processing. Lecture recording and voice tutoring start only when you choose to start them and allow microphone access; their audio and transcripts are processed to provide the requested recording or tutoring features.

During live tutoring, you can choose to share a tab, window, or screen using Chrome’s sharing picker. While sharing is active, Dolphin sends periodic images of that selected surface to its live AI provider so the tutor can respond to what you show. Stop sharing at any time using the tutor controls or Chrome’s sharing control. The feature does not start screen capture before you choose it. Screen images are not saved as course files or conversation attachments by Dolphin.

Canvas import and sync

When you connect your school’s Canvas site and select courses, the extension uses your existing signed-in browser session to read supported course information. This can include course names, syllabi, assignments, deadlines, announcements, posted grades, pages, and accessible course files. Selected course data is sent to Dolphin to import your materials and keep your connected courses current.

Your school password and authentication cookies stay in your browser. They are not sent to Dolphin. Your school controls when you need to sign in again. Browser-based sync can pause when your browser is closed, your device is asleep, or your school session expires.

Using Dolphin without an account

You can chat without signing in. Guest conversations and the page context attached to those messages are stored locally in this browser so you can reopen them. Messages and attached context are sent to Dolphin and its AI providers when you send a request; they are not automatically added to a Dolphin account. Uninstalling the extension removes this local guest history.

Your Dolphin account connection

You sign in through Dolphin’s secure account page, displayed in the panel or a separate window, and approve the browser connection. Provider sign-in may open a Google or Apple window. The extension stores a device credential in the browser’s extension storage so it can access its permitted Dolphin features. This credential is separate from your school password and from your normal Dolphin sign-in credentials.

Processing and storage

The linked extension can show and continue your existing Dolphin chats and use your saved study materials. It reads your saved Pip appearance to match your website experience. These features use your linked account; they do not grant access to another student's account, billing, or account settings.

Dolphin stores imported materials, saved passages, conversations, and related course information in your account to provide your study tools and history. Relevant context may be processed by Dolphin’s service providers, including AI providers, when you ask questions or generate study materials. The extension does not sell your personal data or use page content and school records for advertising.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

The Dolphin browser extension’s collection, use, and transfer of user data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use this data only to provide or improve the extension’s disclosed study features and related operation and security. We do not sell this data, use or transfer it for personalized advertising, or use or transfer it to determine creditworthiness or for lending.

Your controls

You choose which Canvas courses to connect and where to save page material. You can stop browser access by removing a site permission or uninstalling the extension. You can also manage and disconnect your browsers from Dolphin, including a browser you no longer have access to. Disconnecting revokes its Dolphin device credential; it does not automatically delete materials or conversations already saved in your Dolphin account.

Use Dolphin’s account and material controls to remove saved content or request deletion by contacting [email protected]. The Dolphin Privacy Policy describes account data retention and other service-wide practices.
